If you think this regal hotel is beautiful and elegant, once you know its courageous history you will think it truly amazing. The original palace, which stood in Galdakao in the 17th century, was reconstructed in 2004 and 2005 in Laukariz following the laborious task of organizing and cataloguing the building’s stones. The construction of the Bilbao-Behovia road led to the expropriation of the land on which the building stood, and meant that the Palace would have to be demolished. The owner, Mr José María Solano, decided to take it down stone by stone, duly numbering each one. However, this story of perseverance did not stop here, it had only just begun. The place where the bricks had been carefully stored was destroyed by the 1983 floods and some of the numbers, as well as the dismantlement plans, were washed away by the water. It was not an easy task to put the enormous and magnificent puzzle back together, which retains the style and original appearance of the palace. All of the bedrooms are airy and bright with a view of the golf course and have an immaculate, classic air yet contain all manner of technology, such as a flat screen TV, Wi-Fi and ADSL.
Cuisine
Harria, the Palacio Urgoiti’s restaurant, offers dishes based on traditional Basque cuisine, creatively prepared and presented. Lunches and dinners around 45 €.

A 9 hole pitch & putt golf course is located in the hotel grounds. A heated swimming pool with jets. Gym. Horse riding in Mungía and water sport activities in Plentzia and Bakio, 15 minutes from the hotel. Visits to San Sebastian, Biarritz and Mundaka, Gernika and Urdaibai.
