Cal Llop –“The Wolves’ Lair”– is pure delight captured in stone, wood and iron. A place where free design has enabled the creation of very personal spaces. We are clearly in El Priorat, a region whose very essence seems to lend a special character to the rooms. Centuries of culture, of El Priorat, waft in the warm air of olive orchards, trellised grapevines, almond trees and shady arbors. That freedom in design begins outside. The hotel is a series of semidetached structures extending from the original, circa 13th century building. Rooms and bathrooms are distinctive and inviting. Silence, light and colour mingle with cutting edge technology. Rural life in the digital age. A former stable has been expertly converted into a fresh, colourful restaurant with blue walls providing a suitable backdrop for the Bordeaux tones in our wine glasses. Bordeaux, did we say? Priorat, rather.
Cuisine
Mediterranean cuisine with a creative flair served in three distinctive spaces. The menu ventures to suggest evocative dishes. Rice dishes—of course, so close to the river delta—are complemented with ceviche, ajoblanco (a white soup served cold), provolone cheese, and rabo de toro (bull’s tail)—and the local tinto, of course.
Extensive Priorat and Montsant wines menu. Closed Tuesday night. Lunch and dinner 30 € approx.
Activities
Guided visits to vineyards and wineries. Seven golf courses await less than half an hour from the hotel. Sailing excursions are also available.
