Botarell, ten minutes from the beaches at Cambrils and three from Montbrió’s thermal waters, lies between fresh and salt water, and earth and sand. These villages have, in general, more flavour than most. The small and charming Cal Barber adds a pinch of salt to the village by bringing a wonderful abandoned house back to life, restored externally to its heyday in 1798 and renovated internally to please lovers of contrast. Exposed beams and stone are combined with designer lamps, and the whitewashed and stone walls merge with earthenware floors. Large photographs of flowers adorn the walls. Several of the gresite and glass bathrooms have a whirlpool tub, ideal for those who decide to leave the stroll to Cambrils or Montbrió for another day.
